‘Make it like Google’ was the brief provided by the Sero Institute for their new Western Australia Headquarters located in the heart of the newly rezoned Bayswater Precinct.
3 months later the delivery of a state of the art educational facility was handed over ahead of schedule after a whirlwind turnover. The team at Built Ink took to the refurbishment of a decrepit 1970’s showroom with precision and planning that saw the entire internal fit out removed, the building re-engineered to bring it to current BCA Standards and re-roofed within a tight timeframe that included the Christmas break. This was a project that required extreme construction management and a close relationship with contractors and the management team at Sero to ensure it ran smoothly.
After considering the brief and the need for the interiors to be durable, flexible, aesthetically pleasing and most importantly hygienic the Built Ink team proposed a WA-centric theme to highlight the institutes location, connect the students with the WA landscape and immerse them into destinations whilst enjoying their vocational study.
This saw the use of bright vibrant colours, cool graphics and combination of custom built and store bought furniture to create a funky, fun and inspirational college. Commercial grade finishes were utilised for their hard wearing and acoustic properties and helped keep the tight budget limits.
Over the course of 3 months the old showroom was gutted and restored, one of the first ear-marked for the newly rezone and under development Bayswater precinct. This area is set to house the new Metronet and provide students with ease of transport.
Despite overcoming various obstacles including a tight timeframe and limited budget, what resulted is a fresh, vibrant and inspiring refurbishment that has seen Sero Institute re-establish itself as the upcoming leaders in vocational education.
